Yun Zi’s Birthday Weekend

Yun Zi will celebrate his third birthday and they zoo staff has planned many events for him during his birthday weekend:

It's that time of the year again, and this year will be a full weekend of panda birthday fun and everyone is invited. Yun Zi is just asking that his friends wear black, white, and/or red for this special occasion. This morning we had a world-famous ice cake presentation around 9 a.m. for Yun Zi to enjoy. On Sunday, August 5, Yun Zi will get his second ice cake around 8:30 to 9 a.m. to enjoy with the Black & White Overnight guests.

Throughout the weekend, both Yun Zi and Gao Gao will get special enrichment presents and treats so they both can celebrate Yun Zi's birthday and the birth of a new sibling. We did get all the funding for Yun Zi's present: an artificial climbing and shade tree. We are now just waiting until his new brother or sister is a little older before the construction on the tree gets started.

The giant panda is a notable black and white coloured member of the bear family. Panda bears primarily feed on bamboo. When eating, they stand on their hind paws so that their front paws can hold their food. There are only a very limited number of Pandas living in the wild. Experts estimate their numbers, which are restricted to only a few regions of China, to be fewer than 3000. Therefore, they are amongst the world's highly endangered species.
