On May 7, the experts sent to Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding & Research Base to rescue a dying wild panda were finally relieved. It is really a miracle of life for a wild panda to be out danger and now the rescued panda is under 24 hours of care, said a staff from the base.

This wild panda was first found at the Longxi-Hongkou National Natural Reserves on April 17. When the working staffs found the panda, it was under extremely bad physical conditions and was dying. After this incident was reported, professional medical and rescue teams were sent to the site immediately to give emergency treat to this panda. After six days and nights of hard working, the wild panda was finally brought back to life.

Since the late 70s and early 80s of last century, many pandas have died of illness and starvation due to mass bloom of bamboos on panda’s habitat. Since then, Chengdu has saved 63 wild pandas and cured 58. Some of these pandas were sent back to the wild nature and some were sent to the panda centers around China and the world.

6 baby giant pandas playing together in Chengdu
These baby giant pandas are at Chengdu Giant Panda Research Station and Breeding Center ("Chengdu Panda Base"), which lies at an altitude of 500 meters (1640 feet) in a suburb just 10 km (6 miles), or a 40-minute drive, north of downtown Chengdu in China's province of Sichuan. Chengdu Panda Base was established in 1987 with six injured giant pandas. Opened to the public in 1995, this base now contains a giant panda museum as well as over 60 giant pandas in a developed area of some 200 hectares (494 acres). This video clip was taken on the morning of 19 April 2009. When we arrived at the baby pandas' pen just after 9 AM, the animals had recently been let outside and were very active and rambunctious. However, within about 20 minutes they had already tired and the frenetic pace seen in this video clip had slowed considerably. The giant panda, the cute black and white-coated icon of modern China, is a bamboo-eating mammal native to mountainous areas in the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu in southwestern and central-western China. An endangered species, only some 1000 to 1600 giant pandas now live in the wild, mostly in the mountains of Sichuan. In addition, there are about 265 giant pandas living in captivity in China and around the world. Giant pandas, which suffer from a low birth rate, are threatened by habitat encroachment and destruction spurred by the growing demand for land and natural resources from China's large and ever-increasing population.
